Our Story In A Nutshell....
It's safe to say that both Rachael and Nigel wouldn't have ever guessed that when they first met, it would be the beginning of a life-long journey together. While this may not be the sappy story of love at first sight, Rachael and Nigel's bond in love is a testiment to the idea that it's really not important how you get 'there' in life, but much more so where you end up! And 'end up' they certainly did. Rachael's sister Lauren had been dating a friend of Nigel's on and off. During one of these on periods, Nigel and his friends had been busy hosting all sorts of fantastic dinner parties, celebrating and putting to use Nigel's new French Chef training. What better way to meet the ladies right? : ) Nigel was single at this time and Rachael's sister had been present for more than one of these events, soon coming to the conclusion that perhaps an introduction of her sister and Nigel would make sense. Now initially, Rachael was less than fond of this 'on again/off again' boyfriend her sister had, but Rachael wanted to meet this 'very handsome' Gourmet Chef with 'nice arms', and her sister wanted a good reason to hang out during this 'on again' phase. So, as luck would have it, the incentives for both Rachael and her sister attending this dinner party couldn't have been more aligned, but you will have to ask them individually for their own 'version'. Trust that they are quite different : ). Anyways, unbeknown to our Bride To Be, her wonderful sister had informed Nigel that "Rachael's going to come over, eat, and hang out with us tonight". That sounded great, but in the middle of dinner Rachael make it very clear that a friend of hers is coming over to pick her up, so that they can 'go out on the town'. Oh the drama. The point here, however, is that Rachael and Nigel did get a second chance to hang out, and while there first meeting might not have been filled with fireworks and thumping hearts, the second date (which was really the first date) is truly what sparked the magic. Slow to grow was this magic, but grow it did! All in all, Rachael and Nigel decided to move to Honolulu, Hawaii together in 2006 and if you can believe it, will have been together FIVE YEARS at the time of the wedding. Talk about courting! The rest is, as they say, history......
